Penstemon digitalis, also known as foxglove beardtongue, is a native North American wildflower that belongs to the snapdragon or Scrophulariaceae family. It is a herbaceous perennial that can grow up to 3 feet tall, with spikes of tubular, white, or light-pink flowers. The flowers bloom from late spring to early summer and attract long-tongued pollinators including hummingbirds. The plant has a clumping habit and forms a basal rosette of leaves. The leaves are lance-shaped and up to 6 inches long.

It prefers well-drained soils that are rich in organic matter and is relatively drought tolerant. The plant can tolerate a range of soil pH levels, from acidic to alkaline. Penstemon digitalis is typically found in prairies, savannas, and along roadsides and is often grown as an ornamental plant for its attractive flowers and ease of cultivation.

Penstemon digitalis prefers full sun to partial shade. It will grow well in areas with 6 or more hours of direct sunlight per day, but can also tolerate some shade. The plant is able to adapt to changes in light levels, making it a good choice for areas with fluctuating light conditions.
