Echinacea pallida, also known as pale purple coneflower is native to the central and eastern United States. It has daisy-like flowers with drooping pink or purple petals and a large, dark central cone. The petals are typically around 2 to 3 inches long and the cone is around 1 inch in diameter. The stems of the flowers tend to resemble pipe-cleaners with there bendy shape and fuzzy appearance. The flowers bloom from June to September and are attractive to butterflies and other pollinators.
Echinacea pallida prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soil that are rich in organic matter. It will grow in full sun to light shade, but the flowers will be more vibrant in full sun. It is known for its medicinal properties and is often used in herbal remedies to boost the immune system and to treat a variety of ailments.
